This year was my best yet.
I found a way to raise the bar with my work in a year full of uncertainty and was able to create my very own mobile product that solves a problem and earn passive income from it.
I thoroughly enjoyed the highs and lows of launching an indie app and being transparent about my daily experiences across the last 288 days.
I'm very thankful I was able to meet & interact with awesome people around the world along the way, and look forward to what 2021 will bring. 🙂
Nearly two years ago I wrote the final part for Part 14 of Launching an Indie App, a blog series covering my journey creating my first indie app Focused Work.
And to be dead honest, I’ve missed writing about my journey in the public sphere.
If you haven’t yet checked it out, I covered each step of the way; Idea conception. Design. Development. Beta Testing. Marketing. Pricing. Launching.
There’s some hidden gems amongst each part. 💎
⌛️ Since then
In the proceeding 370 days, I’ve launched three more apps; Ochi, Go To Sleep, Shelf, and have met an incredibly diverse group of indies from across the world, learning many valuable lessons from them that have helped me continue growing. ❤️
As I put thoughts to keyboard once more, 946 days into my journey (I never stopped counting, nor journaling in private!), I feel fortunate to have pushed through some difficult times and come out on the other side with my sanity.
It’s now been four consecutive months since my apps have become 🍜 Ramen Profitable. In other words, they earn enough to pay for life stuff each month - which is an incredible feeling!
However, amongst the highs I also faced challenging times…
My apps weren’t growing for a while, even though I was putting an unhealthy amount of time and energy into them. I also was juggling multiple client projects that stretched my time thin (i’m also a freelancer). And then there was life stuff that finds a way to slap you in the face every so often.
These hurt my confidence and motivation, but somehow I made it through with a more pragmatic and focused outlook on where I want to take my indie journey.
🔮 What’s next in store
Over time many folks have reached out thanking me for creating Launching an Indie App as it inspired them to also take the leap with their own apps - which has been incredible to hear. It’s why I decided to write it in the first place!
And now, I’m ready to continue from where I left off - albeit in a shorter format that doesn’t take me 1-2 days to write up and edit each time!
This is my first time i’m running a proper newsletter, and hope I can share my enthusiasm for trying new ideas. 🙂
